Minor Threat V2

S/. 9,936 S/. 11,543

The Minor Threat came about as some of us are parents now, and we realised kids these days are putting higher and higher demands on their equipment than ever before.

The V2 builds on the success of the Minor Threat and adds tweaks and refinements, as well as a new 27.5" size (S3).

Best kids bike out there!

I am a rider for CHROMAG, and have the gen 1 version of this bike. I can say without a doubt that this is the best kids bike on the market! From the moment I got on it, the bike was perfection in everyway. The spec, workmanship, attention to detail were all there. It is super versatile, it can climb on those long enduro rides, and comes to life on the gnarliest DH trail, or just shredding bike park. It is FUN to ride!

Amazing bike!

Amazing bike!

MTV2

Our new design features more progressivity in the suspension, supporting riders who are riding faster and harder as they progress in the larger end of our size range.

The Minor Threat now has room for a water bottle while maintaining its low-slung design with plenty of stand-over clearance.

Minor Threat Geometry

We decided to make three frame sizes because reach, stack and wheelbase are a much better assessment of bike fit than wheel size alone.
We spec'd these bikes just as we would for ourselves, so there's no reason smaller adults couldn't ride the S3.
We don't recommend swithcing the wheel sizes between S1,2 & 3 as you are merely making the bike taller and raising the center of gravity, rather than increasing the actual bike size.

Devil's in the details

Whether you get your bike in a box, or roll it out the front door here at Chromag HQ, you can rest assured your bike has been pored over with pride, and built with the utmost attention to detail by one of our extremely talented mechanics. Threads are chased, seat tubes are reamed, head tubes are honed, fits are checked and checked again, all to make sure when you get your bike, everything is absolutely dialed.

If we shipped your bicycle, the only difference is that once built, we disassembled some of the parts to fit it in the box.

Materials

6066 Aluminum was the best choice for the Minor Threat for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, the use of aluminum allows us to build a bike that’s burly enough to hold up to the bike park without being too heavy for a lighter rider to manage.

Another factor is that aluminum is pretty low-maintenance. With chromoly steel it's quite important to grease your seatpost every couple of months. However, this isn’t as much of issue with an aluminum bike. While unpainted steel is not naturally corrosion-resistant, aluminum is! You should still grease your seatpost (and pretty much every component-to-component interface for that matter) with an aluminum bike, but it’s a little more forgiving to being “ridden hard and put away wet”.

Just like the rest of our Taiwanese-made frames like the Rootdown, Stylus, and Monk, the Minor Threat is handmade by a team of highly skilled framebuilders in Taiwan, and is held to the same stringent quality control standard that our frames are known for.

Craftsmanship

Like all our products, the Minor Threat was designed with durability and serviceability in mind.

All pivots spin on Enduro MAX bearings that are well-sealed, long-lasting, and commonly available through most local bike shops or as kits on our website.

The pivot hardware is machined from high-strength 7075 aluminum, with excellent tool interfaces = no more rounded bolt heads.

HeadTube Badge

Your bike is special. The head tube badge is the finishing touch so we’ve always made a point of taking the time to do something interesting with it. Our head tube badges have changed over the years and are an indication of the time each bike was made.

Whether it’s a cast bronze, or polished stainless steel, water cut aluminum or a 3D CNC carving, each one represents our commitment to detail.

Suspension philosophy

We chose a 4-bar suspension layout for the V2, with a main pivot located just above the bottom bracket, a seattube-mounted rocker link, and a vertically oriented, trunnion-mounted shock. We found this layout to strike a good balance of tuneability, ride quality, and elegant simplicity. A 4-bar layout offered enough tuning parameters for us to design the suspension characteristics the way we wanted them, simultaneously achieving our targets for leverage ratio, progression, anti-squat, and anti-rise.

At the same time, it keeps things simple and intuitive. With no hidden hardware, sliders, or concentric multi-link pivots, every pivot can be accessed, bolt-checked, and worked on without taking the whole bike apart.

suspension design

kinematics

Our design principals of achieving consistent kinematics, reasonable progression and a supportive pedalling platform have been implemented on the Minor Threat V2. However the kinematics have been developed with a lighter rider in mind. As such a higher starting and average leverage ratio are used along with less progression than our adults bikes to allow the travel to be used efficiently by a lower weight user.
